Carley’s Bourbon Street Barrel Room Experience!

On our weekly segment with Jason “The Food Guy” last week, he broke down the top five best gumbos in Cleveland. Being from Louisiana, I am a very tough critic when it comes to gumbo or any Cajun/Creole food at all. Jason had listed the new Bourbon Street Barrel Room to have the number one gumbo in Cleveland. The restaurant has only been open for a couple of months and to have already made it to the top of a food critic’s list is pretty impressive! This of course led me to Tremont to experience the restaurant myself.

Having been born and raised in Louisiana my entire life, when I moved to Cleveland I really noticed the diverse food scene here. It is quite impressive to see such a large melting pot of food varieties in Northeast Ohio, not to mention all of the profound Chefs we have from the area. When I walked into the doors of Bourbon Street Barrel Room, I knew instantly this place was going to be a success. The antique gas lamps that line the wall, true artwork straight off Bourbon Street and the detail in the architecture of the ceilings are just a few things that make the experience so realistic. I truly felt like I was home in Louisiana eating in the heart of New Orleans.

The food is superb and truly authentic. Melt-in-your-mouth shrimp, flavorful and zesty jambalaya and of course the po-boys that are made with true New Orleans French bread. What makes true New Orleans French bread? It is something almost indescribable, the flaky crust and softer crunch cannot be put into words. One of my favorite Cajun dishes is shrimp and grits and Bourbon Street Barrel room does it excellent! I finished off my meal with hot, fresh beignets coated with powdered sugar that were complete perfection.

After talking with the head chef and Southern Louisiana native, Johnny Schulze, I was beyond impressed to see the passion and goal to create an authentic and delightful experience for the people of Cleveland. A lot of people love New Orleans and to be able to bring that experience to the heart of Tremont is commendable. I highly recommend Bourbon Street Barrel room! You will leave satisfied by the food, staff and atmosphere. I am so excited to see the bright future of such an already fantastic establishment.
