Blake Shelton
For his holiday album Cheers, It’s Christmas, Blake Shelton recruited a few special guests to duet with him. One was singer Michael Bublè; another was perhaps the most ‘special’ guest of all: Blake’s mother, Dorothy Shackleford.
Dorothy duets with her son on the song “Time For Me To Come Home,” which they actually wrote together. And luckily, Blake told CBS Local in a recent interview, he didn’t have to twist her arm too hard to sing on the album with him.
“She was really excited that we were writing a song together,” Blake explains, “because she’s always coming up with song ideas.”
Blake says the song is more or less “about the relationship between a kid and his mom.” And once it was written, he says, “I told her, ‘Mom, it’d be really cool if you sang on it with me.’”
He says she gave him the thumbs up, except for one little point. “Her only concern was, she didn’t want to sound like a hick on the recording,” Blake says with a sly smile.
“And I was honest with her. I told her, ‘Mom, I don’t really think there’s much we can do to help you there. You’re pretty much screwed if you think you won’t sound country.’”
