Oprah Winfrey is not surprised that Rihanna has reportedly decided to get back together with Chris Brown. After taping a revealing interview with Rihanna back in August, Oprah explained why she now passes no judgement on the rekindled flame. 

“Is she back with him?” said Oprah, when asked by ExtraTv. “I don’t know that that’s true.”

Last week Chris Brown made a public appearance at Jay-Z’s Barclays Arena show. And later Brown made a slickly produced video, “The Real Chris Brown,” in which he admitted he was drunk and that he loved two women. 

Winfrey, who has been vocal about Brown’s 2009 abuse of Rihanna in the past, went on to offer her thoughts on the couple. 

“No, I am not surprised,” Winfrey said. “You know what I love about that interview. It is that she came with a big wide open heart, that she was in the space of forgiveness. She learned a lesson that she is repeating with Chris brown exactly what she needed to learn with her father. I think that if she is prepared to deal with that and is prepared to help him help himself, so be it.”

When Rihanna sat with Oprah, the singer shed tears for Chris Brown. 

“It was embarrassing,” Rihanna told Oprah. “It was humiliating. I lost my best friend. I was resentful. I held a grudge. I was dark.”

Despite the tears and deep pain Rihanna confessed, Oprah said she does not pass judgement on the matter.

“I have no judgment about it,” Oprah said. “That’s why I can sit there and have such a great time with her because I do all my interviews with no judgment whatsoever. If that’s how you choose to lead your life, that’s really okay.” –Erik Parker, CBS Local
