A Cleveland fire chief was on vacation, and wanted ‘rub it in’, so he sent evelopes of beach sand to local fire departments and caused quite a ruckus. When he goes on vacation his tradition has been to mail sand (sound like something I would do…but not now!), this year he added a few new departments to his list. He sent the sand in unmarked envelopes with no return addresses and out of state post marks.
HazMat, the FBI, and the postal inspection service were all called about an hour after getting the sand.
Firefighters eventually got a hold of other departments and found out about his tradition.
No one was hurt and no one was charged.
