One of the co-writers behind Justin Bieber‘s “Boyfriend,” Mike Posner sat down with B96/Chicago before his performance this weekend at Summer Bash. While he explained how he first became a producer he was mum on whether he’d ever perform “Boyfriend” live.
Bieber’s lead single off his upcoming album Believe, Posner filled us in on how the song came to be.
“I wrote it with my homie Black Bear and Justin, and produced it,” he said. “I was just honored to be part of this project. I was really happy with how it came out.”
The producer got an early start in music and expressed his hope to have a long career.
“I was making beats since I was 13-years-old. I just really love this,” he said. “I tell my friends that if I did it for the money, I would quit. I’ve been blessed and I’ve been able to make a little money. I just really love this. I’ll be doing this for the rest of my life.”
While being an artist and a songwriter is very different at times, Posner said he likes doing both equally.
“I’m just really blessed and grateful to have the opportunity to jump into both worlds,” he said. “I started off a producer when I was 13, and I started singing because I couldn’t sell any beats. So I’ve only been singing for like three years. But I love singing, I’ve fallen in love with the art of singing now.”
As far as a future album for Posner, he says it’s in the works.
“I’m working on a couple other people’s projects – I can’t talk about it yet. Writing and producing and finishing my second album. It’s insane.”
