Counting Crows brought their outlaw roadshow to Cain Park in Cleveland Heights last night, June 18. The rain stopped and skies cleared just in time for the show, as Philadelphia Indie folk trio Good Old War and Chicago based alt. rock group Filligar warmed up the crowd; giving performances that left everyone watching wanting more. Counting Crows lead singer Adam Duritz took up MC duties during the opening acts, introducing the bands and making sure the crowd knew that they were listening to some great up and coming bands worthy of their attention. Duritz could also be seen just off stage listening and grooving along with the opening bands he was clearly happy to share the stage with.
Counting Crows came out to roaring applause and ripped through some of their earlier their hits “Daylight Fading” “All My Friends” “Recovering the Satellites” and “Mr. Jones” before going into some songs from their new 6th studio album released in April titled Underwater Sunshine (Or What We Did On Our Summer Vacation). This new album consists of cover songs including “You Ain’t Going Nowhere” by Bob Dylan and The Byrds and “Ooh La La” by Faces. Duritz let the audience do some of the work during “A Long December” as the resounding sing a long made it clear that these fans had been to a Counting Crows show before. For the encore, opening bands Good Old War and Filligar joined Counting Crows on stage for an epic rendition of Bob Dylan’s “You Ain’t Going Nowhere”.
