Though Norah Jones‘ new album, Little Broken Hearts, is all about a bad relationship, the record’s first single “Happy Pills” was actually inspired by a late night craving.

On an episode of VH1 Storytellers, Jones talks about writing her new song, which started out as a joke; a little ditty her guitarist hummed for her on a night in the studio where she was especially “hangry”—hungry and angry—because her bandmates couldn’t decide what they wanted to eat.

Norah recorded the song on her iPhone and a few weeks later her and the band decided to work on it. She admits the song itself sounds “annoyingly happy” and wondered how they would make it fit in with the other mellow, dark songs from the album. So what did they do?

“We just made the lyrics really mean,” Norah admits on the show. “And then it fit in perfectly.”

The singer also talks about her hit song, “Come Away With Me” from her 2002 album of the same name. Many fans have asked her if that song is code for something else, maybe something risqué. Norah swears it’s not, but isn’t offended by their dirty minds. In fact, the misinterpretation isn’t that farfetched.

“I mean I have a band called The Little Willies,” she said. “I definitely like dirty double meanings.”
