In honor of Biggie’s passing 15 years ago, DJ/producer Terry Urban cooked up a special concoction: a mixtape of Lana Del Rey and the Notorious B.I.G. entitled Born Ready to Die. Urban wanted merge music styles and bridge audiences together in new ways.
According to Urban, “It’s a perfect marriage… dark and mysterious… soulful and gritty.” While the two aren’t an obvious fit, other than their complimentary album titles (Born To Die and Ready To Die, respectively), the mash up is an interesting listen.
Del Rey recently appeared on American Idol, where she performed her single “Video Games.”The singer was the focus of huge cultural backlash following her Saturday Night Live performance of the same song. Notorious B.I.G. was one of New York’s definitive hip hop artists, until he was shot down in 1997 while on a trip to Los Angeles. His shooting remains unsolved.
